- 1). Measure the area in which you plan to place the wall. Make note of the length and height and check local building regulations to be sure that you won't be violating any building codes. If there is no footing already in place, include in your plans a step to pour one.
- 2). Sketch out your planned wall and make note of your materials, including the rebar, concrete for the footing and the wall itself, tie wires to attache the pieces of rebar together, and lumber for making concrete forms.
- 3). Figure how much rebar will be needed for the project. For instance, if your wall is going to be 10 feet long and 4 feet high, you'll need five pieces of rebar that are 4 feet long and three pieces that are just short of 10 feet long. You won't want the ends of the horizontal pieces of rebar sticking out of the concrete on the ends of your fence, so for a 10-foot fence, the three horizontal pieces should measure roughly 9 feet 10 inches.
- 4). Plan the spots where you will place the rebar vertically. You will drill a 4-inch-deep hole every 2 feet into the footing, starting at one end, 1 foot in. Using the 10-by-4-foot example, this means you'll drill a hole 1 foot in, then another at 3 feet, 5 feet, 7 feet and 9 feet.
- 5). Map out the placing of the horizontal rebar. You will be securing the horizontal lengths of rebar to the vertical pieces of rebar using tie wire, starting at 1 foot up from the footing, another piece 1 foot down from the top, and one more centered between the top and bottom pieces of rebar.
