- 1). Complete and submit an application online only during an open application period. Dallas Fire-Rescue posts the application periods in the Dallas Morning News as well as on the Internet. Applications are filled out on the NEOGOV website. See link in the References section.
- 2). Submit official transcripts for all colleges and universities you have attended. Make sure you submit the transcripts when you submit your application. If you do not submit the transcripts in a timely manner, your application could be disqualified.
- 3). Study for and take the Civil Service Exam. This is required as part of the hiring process.
- 4). Successfully complete the Candidate Physical Ability Test (C-PAT). This test will be put on by the department. Prepare yourself by training and staying in shape.
- 5). Once you are hired, the Texas Commission on Fire Protection requires 468 hours of training to function as firefighter. Dallas Fire-Rescue also trains firefighters as EMTs and paramedics.
