- 1). Give the command, "Color Guard, attention!" Members of the military, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts go to attention along with the color guard. Persons not affiliated with the Scouts or the military stand at attention.
- 2). Say, "Color guard, forward march!" The color guard moves in cadence towards the American flag, state flag and a religious flag if applicable. As the color guard approaches the flags, the color guard leader announces, "Color guard, halt!" The entire color guard comes to a complete stop.
- 3). Give the command," Hand salute!" The color guard members all slowly raise their hands to salute the American flag. They hold their hands in that position until the color guard leader says, "Two!" Persons in the audience simply place their right hand over the heart during this part of the closing ceremony.
- 4). Say, "Color guard, retrieve the colors." The flag bearers both pick up the flags that are posted with the American flag at the same time and place the flag poles in the carry position.
- 5). Give the command, "Color guard, about face, forward march!" The color guard turns around and walks back to the position from which they started. The color guard leader will announce, "Color guard, halt!" The color guard stops and retires the colors in the holding blocks for the flags.
