- 1). Decorate the outside of an empty rectangular tissue box with your child. Carefully remove any plastic from the oval opening of the box so only the cardboard remains. Let your child know that you are going to be making a toy guitar so that they can decorate appropriately.
- 2). Stretch four long and various rubber bands across and around the length of the tissue box. The rubber bands should be on top of the oval opening on the top of the box so that the rubber bands have room to vibrate.
- 3). Attach a ruler to a side of the tissue box to serve as the guitar handle. Secure with tape. Give your child time to explore with the guitar by strumming the rubber bands and hearing the different sounds that the different types make.
- 1). Decorate the outside of an oatmeal box. Let your child know that you are going to be making a drum.
- 2). Cut two pieces of yarn. They should be long enough to reach from your child's neck to your child's waist.
- 3). Place oatmeal box on its side.
- 4). Tape one piece of yarn to one side of the box and the other piece of yarn to the other side of the box. Use heavy packing tape to secure the yarn in place. Tie the two pieces together at the top. Place around your child's neck.
- 5). Use two unsharpened pencils to serve as drum sticks. Give your child time to explore with the drum by tapping the oatmeal box with the pencils.
- 1). Remove the lid from a shoe box.
- 2). Decorate the box. Show your child pictures of a harp if they are not familiar with one. Let your child know that they will be making a harp so that they can decorate the box appropriately.
- 3). Stretch a number of various rubber bands across the center of the shoe box. Either vertically or horizontally will work. Give your child time to explore with the harp by strumming the rubber bands.
