- 1). Scoop the tea powder into the cup. You can use a traditional Japanese bamboo tea scoop if you like, but a basic circular 1/2 tsp. scoop will work just as well. Start with 1/2 tsp. of powder; you can add more or less in the future if you decide you want a stronger or weaker brew. The more powder in the brew, the stronger it will taste. If you use the bamboo tea scoop, start with 1 1/2 to 2 scoops and add more or less in subsequent brewings to taste.
- 2). Add boiling water to the powder in the cup. Start with 1/3 cup. You can reduce the amount to 1/4 cup if you want a stronger brew.
- 3). Whisk the powder and water mixture. Hold the bamboo whisk straight up to get the best vantage point. Start with the whisk in the middle of the cup. Do not touch the whisk all the way to the bottom of the cup. Whisk in a circular motion at a slow pace until the powder begins to dissolve. Increase the pace and whisk the mixture from side to side. Remove the whisk after a foam appears atop the mixture. Tap the whisk gently against the side of the bowl to drop the excess foam into the cup.
