A house and garden wedding would especially suit small, intimate weddings, except if you have access to an unusually large house and garden. Holding a wedding at home gets rid of the difficulties associated with getting bookings for your preferred date at common wedding venues. You also will have more freedom with a house and garden wedding, but it also comes with other challenges. - The guests will spend some time in the garden and you don't want them to get wet. Even if you are holding a summer wedding in a place with little rainfall, you should rent a tent in case of bad weather. There are many tent models in the market and you might be able to get a tent with clear ceilings, secure flooring or fabric linings. One tent might not be enough, especially if the kitchen is small as the caterer might need an extra working space.
- With a house and garden wedding party, you can use existing furniture from the house for the party. If the house lacks space, consider rearranging furniture pieces or placing them in storage during the event so there will be enough room for everyone to move. You will probably need to rent chairs, tables and linen. If you hire a band, you will usually also have to provide power outlets, a stage and sound system.
- The town hall or police department might require you to have a permit to hold a function in a house. For example, you might be able to apply for exemptions from noise limits or neighborhood parking limits. You should provide the guests with a shuttle bus service or a valet service if there is not enough parking space around the house. Hang signs to show where the restrooms are and place plenty of toilet paper and paper hand towels in the restrooms. If your guests will be bringing kids, designate an area for them to play with adult supervision.
- You could get the blame for any injuries that occur in your home, so you should consider getting an insurance for the event and check the area for safety before the party. Kids should not be near ponds and pools unsupervised and any cables have to stay clear of walkways. Have someone look out for inebriated guests and don't let them drive home. Protect your belongings by storing fragile items and locking the doors to bedrooms and other private areas.
