Rockabilly: - The mongrel dog bred from part country, part western swing, part boogie-woogie, part rhythm and blues and it's more than partly back (although it never truly disappeared).
The visually strong elements of 1950's rockabilly haunts the fashion mainstream with a current retro look that embraces burlesque, animal prints, "sailor-tattoos", and of course polka dots, ponytails and pompadours.
Musically, rockabilly is also back.
For example, German band "The Baseballs" cover modern hits such as Umbrella (Rihanna), Hot n' Cold (Katy Perry) in a Rock n' Roll style.
Also the much-acclaimed Richard Hawley (currently producing Lisa-Marie Presley) has a strong rockabilly style and look.
Over the last few decades we have also seen Psychobilly (a demented fusion of punk and rockabilly) influence loads of bands, currently the likes of The Horrors (UK) to the white stripes in the States.
Original Psychobilly bands are also coming back with renewed interest in the Cramps, Gun Club etc.
In Rockabilly the right look is everything and the most important accessory in a band is a suitable retro-style guitar.
If you can't afford an original 1950's Gretsch or Gibson, help is at hand with a spectacular revival in guitar manufacturers producing authentic looking Rock n' Roll instruments.
Peerless make fabulous Bigsby fitted archtops in the spirit and style of Gibson and Gretsch (Tonemaster/Gigmaster) - aspiring Scotty Moores, Brian Setzers etc are well catered for.
Other guitar companies producing similar items include Peavey (Rockingham), Eastwood (Roy Smeck) and Sparrow (various models).
They used to say Rock n' Roll is here to stay, and I guess that's probably true.
Rockabilly certainly rules!
