- 1). Examine the chicken for freezer burn. Freezer-burned areas will be slightly discolored and look gray or brown. If the chicken is badly burned and smells rancid, discard it immediately. No amount of sauce or spices will alter the taste and smell of the damaged meat.
- 2). Defrost the chicken in a microwave, at room temperature or in a refrigerator.
- 3). Cut away the freezer-burned, discolored portions of the chicken and use the rest for the desired recipe of your choice.
