Installation Instructions for a John Deere Plow

    • 1). Raise the lift handle on the tractor so that you move the mower lift up.

    • 2). Place the snow plow so that it is in front of the tractor. Center the plow so that the tractor sits behind the plow in the center.

    • 3). Slowly move the tractor forward until the right front tire of the tractor touches the lift bar on the plow. The lift bar is an L-shaped bar that sticks up out of the top of the plow.

    • 4). Use your hand to continue to roll the front right tire of the tractor over the top of the lift bar.

    • 5). Move the mounting frame on the plow to alignment with the frame of the tractor.

    • 6). Pull the lift bar on the plow back so that it is in the up position.

    • 7). Pick up the rear of the mounting frame so you can continue to push the tractor forward.

    • 8). Slide the slots on the back of the mounting frame onto the bolts coming out of the tractor mounting angles.

    • 9). Attach the upper V-belt. While the tractor attachment lever is in the off position, verify that the V-belt runs inside the clutch idler pulley and the belt guides. If you have a twin-engine mower then the belt guide should be in the outer hole. Other tractors should have the belt guide in the inner hole. Guide the belt so that the upper V-belt goes around the engine drive pulley of the tractor.

Attach the lower mount bar to the tractor. Push the lift bar for the plow into the lower position and under the back of the lower mounting frame on the tractor. Lift up on the handle so that the front mounting clevises snap into the mounting angles. Move the front mounting bracket so that the holes line up with the mounting angle clevis hole. Attach the pin and cotter pins into the hole to attach the twp pieces together. If the lower V-belt is loose, you can tighten it by pulling on the tension chain and securing it in place with the pin.

Install the clutch rod. Move the idler arm of the tractor to the left so that the bar sits on the left side of the frame of the plow. Hold the bar in the stop position. Reposition the clutch rod until the mounting anchor can be attached to the bell crank of the clutch. Attach the clutch in place with a cotter pin.

Install the lift handle by sliding the handle over the end of the lift bar so that the grip is facing the position of the operator. Adjust the lift height.

Install the springs that aid lifting on the right and left side of the tractor. Pull the lift handle up so that it raises the snow plow. Thread the chain and toggle through the spring anchor bracket, which is on the front of the tractor. Hook one end of the spring into the channel box bracket hole and the other end of the spring into the last hole on the chain and toggle. Pull on the toggle end of the chain so that it pulls the spring slightly and slide a large pin into the chain above the bracket of the spring anchor, holding the chain in a taut position. If the chain is not taut, remove the pin and pull the chain tighter and then reinsert the pin to hold it in place. Repeat for the chain and toggle on the other side of the tractor.
