This Resurrection Sunday or as it's commonly known as Easter, many will celebrate the rising of Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Here's three (Deuteronomy 17:6; Matthew 18:16; 2 Corinthians 13:1) confirming Scriptures that faithfully report of His rising from the grave on the third day. "And he (the angel) said unto them, Be not affrighted: You seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him." "For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) "And we (the Apostles) are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly." (Acts 10:39-40)
Here now are three extra-biblical witnesses of Christ being raised up. "Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus." Cornelius Tacitus (55-120 AD), "the greatest historian" of ancient Rome. "At this time there was a wise man who was called Jesus. And his conduct was good and he was known to be virtuous. And many people from among the Jews and other nations became his disciples. Pilate condemned him to be crucified and to die. And those who had become his disciples did not abandon his discipleship. They reported that he had appeared to them three days after his crucifixion and that he was alive." Flavius Josephus (37-97 AD), court historian for Emperor Vespasian. "The Christians, you know, worship a man to this day--the distinguished personage who introduced their novel rites, and was crucified on that account. You see, these misguided creatures start with the general conviction that they are immortal for all time, which explains the contempt of death and voluntary self-devotion which are so common among them; and then it was impressed on them by their original lawgiver that they are all brothers, from the moment that they are converted, and deny the gods of Greece, and worship the crucified sage, and live after his laws. Lucian, 2nd century Greek Satirist.
During the late 70's through the early 90's, many churches celebrated the Resurrection with the classic song "Rise Again" by Dallas Holmes. Even today this song still is a inspirational one. He reported that this song came to him during a period of struggle in his life. Normally for him the songs flowed out like living waters, but at that time he was fresh out of ideas for a song. Dallas then prayed, 'Well, Lord, if you were transported to this time and this place, what would You say?' I then got a mental age of Jesus with the beard and the rope and the whole thing just standing onstage with a guitar. I didn't hear any voices from heaven, no thunderclaps or lightning flashes, but I began to write, and it was literally like taking dictation. In 10 minutes tops, the music and words came out and it was done." His song won the 1977 Dove Award for Song of the Year. The lyrics to his gospel hit, "Rise Again."
Go ahead, drive the nails in my hands
Laugh at me where you stand
Go ahead, and say it isn't me
The day will come, when you will see!
(CHORUS):
'Cause I'll rise again
Ain't no power on earth can tie me down
Yes, I'll rise again
Death can't keep me in the ground!
Go ahead, and mock my name
My love for you is still the same
Go ahead, and bury me
But very soon I will be free!
(CHORUS):
'Cause I'll rise again
Ain't no power on earth can tie me down
Yes, I'll rise again
Death can't keep me in the ground!
Go ahead, and say I'm dead and gone
But you will see that you were wrong
Go ahead, try to hide the Son
But all will see that I'm the One!
(CHORUS)
'Cause I'll Come again
Ain't no power on earth can keep me back
Yes, I'll come again
Come to take my people back
