- 1). Volunteer, tutor, work in soup kitchens and/or homeless shelters, or get involved in extra curricular activities. This will help you find out if you enjoy helping those who are less fortunate or struggling in life or school. Doctors are compassionate people who genuinely love to help others and make a different in people's lives.
- 2). Take part in internships or clinical jobs. These will give you a firsthand look at what it means to be a doctor. Take an many internships as you can before graduating college so that you can see multiple aspects of the medical field.
- 3). Enroll in pre-med classes. Most students who know they want to be doctors find themselves thoroughly interested in academics, wanting to learn more and finding themselves excelling in classes such as science, anatomy, biology and chemistry.
- 4). Enroll in other kinds of classes. Take classes in non-medical subjects to see if there a different career path is an option.
- 5). Study, and study hard, for your classes and tests. The pre-med and medial school curriculum is rigorous, time-consuming and difficult. Studying will help your grasp the concepts, retain more information and make your feel more confident about what you're learning.
- 6). Prepare for the Medical College Admissions Test. Study and prepare for the MCAT to get the best score possible on your test. The result of this test will help you determine if you have what it takes to get into medical school and become a doctor.
