- 1). Check with your local planning office to learn of any restrictions on or incentives for erosion control methods in your area.
- 2). Obtain any necessary permits, which will vary from city to city.
- 3). Plant vegetation. Visit a local nursery to learn what plants will work best in your area. The nursery personnel can also give instructions on the best times of year to plant and on plant care.
- 4). Replenish the sand. Buy sand, and spread it along the existing beach to add a new layer.
- 5). Build a seawall. Just as the city of Galveston, TX, protects its coast, you can assemble a small seawall of rocks to protect your coastal yard. Build up the wall to the base flood evelation (BFE) for your area, or at least to the wall height limit of your city, if your city does not allow building the BFE.
