- 1). Measure the strobe you'll be using with the foam core soft box. Remember or write down the length and width in centimeters.
- 2). Create four trapeze shapes on the foam core using a pencil and ruler. All four trapeze shapes should have a bottom of 40 cm. In the center of the bottom line (at 20 cm), lightly sketch a perpendicular 35 cm line. Create the top of the trapeze by drawing a line parallel with the bottom. Two of the top lines should be the length of the strobe and the other remaining two should be the width of the strobe. To center the top line, divide the length and width in half to create equal lines along the sketched perpendicular line. Connect the bottom and top lines of all four trapeze shapes by using a straight edge and pencil. Cut the four trapeze shapes using a utility knife. Place the straight edge or ruler against the lines of the trapeze while cutting.
- 3). Tape the two pieces of plywood together, one on top of the other so that all sides are even. Drill three evenly spaced holes into the plywood, at 5 cm, 12.5 cm and 20 cm. Remove the tape from the plywood. Center one piece of plywood on one of the two longer top trapeze shaped pieces of foam core. The 25 cm length of the plywood should run along the 35 cm height of the trapezoid. Using the plywood as a guide, drill the same three holes into the foam core.
- 4). Place both pieces of plywood on the drilled foam core so that the foam core is in the middle of the plywood pieces. Guide the bolts into the drilled holes and secure the bolts with nuts.
- 5). Tape the foam core trapezoids together to form a pyramid shape. The two trapezoids with longer tops should be parallel and the two trapezoids with shorter tops should be parallel. The nuts on the plywood and foam core piece should be facing out on the pyramid.
- 6). Place the foam core pyramid on the second piece of unused foam core. Trace the edges using a pencil to create a square or rectangular shaped base, depending on the size of your flash. On each side of the base, measure 3 cm toward the center. Draw lines using a straight edge so that they form another square or rectangular shape. Cut along both sets of lines with your utility knife.
- 7). Attach the base to the pyramid with tape. Set the soft box on top of a piece of white silk. Using a straight edge, trace the base onto the white silk. Cut the silk out slightly larger than the base. Tape the silk on the base.
