How to Create Mugs

    Keep It Simple

    • 1). Order a "Snap-It" mug kit online. They can be purchased for under $10 on websites such as desktoppublishingsupplies.com.

    • 2). Select the image on your computer that will appear on your mug and print it out.

    • 3). Cut the image to 3.75 inches by 10 inches.

    • 4). Slide the image carefully into the mug provided in your mug kit.

    • 5). Snap the image into your mug and seal.

    Share the Work

    • 1). Go to a website like zazzle.com that offers customized mugs. Customized mugs offer more room for creativity and usually range from $15 to $25.

    • 2). Choose a color for the interior and exterior of your mug.

    • 3). Select the image that will appear on your mug. Images can be uploaded from the file of pictures on your computer or taken from the inventory offered by the website. You may need to register for an account and log in to access the website's inventory.

    • 4). Upload the image you have selected. You can also move the image around or crop it according to your preference. Adding text is optional.

    • 5). Preview the finished version of your mug and submit for processing. The mug will usually be shipped to you within 24 hours.

    Start From Scratch

    • 1). Take some clay and create several models of your ceramic mug. Each part of the mug must be well formed to withstand the hot temperature inside the kiln.

    • 2). Put your mug inside the kiln and set the temperature between 1000 to 1200 degrees Celsius. Allow your mug to harden.

    • 3). Take your mug out of the oven and soak it in water. Wait for it to dry.

    • 4). Apply glaze onto the mug to provide color and a glossy texture. Paint designs or pictures on your mug with glazes of different colors.

    • 5). Place your mug back inside the kiln after you have completed the designs on your mug. Set the temperature to 1000 degrees Celsius and allow the glaze to harden. Take your mug out of the kiln and soak it in water for five minutes. Pull your mug out of the water.
