- 1). Locate the telephone number for your city clerk's office. You can find the number in your city's phone book or by calling directory assistance.
- 2). Call your city clerk's office and ask if the city elects alderman by ward or by at-large votes. If the clerk tells you aldermen are elected by ward, give the clerk your address and ask who the alderman is for your ward. If you are informed that alderman are not elected by ward it means all the city's aldermen are "your" alderman.
- 3). Ask the clerk for the alderman's contact information. Be sure to keep a record of the alderman's name and how they are voting on issues, so you will be able to make an informed decision at election time.
