- 1). Pick fruit when it is still green and allow it to ripen off the tree, as Ohio State University recommends.
- 2). Grab the fruit with one hand and gently twist it until it comes free, just as you would pick an apple.
- 3). Pack quince loosely in crates or store in the refrigerator in the vegetable drawer. According to the Telegraph, unblemished fruits will store all winter.
- 4). Store the fruit in a cool place, away from apples. Apples give off ethylene gas, which causes fruits and vegetables in their proximity to ripen quickly. The fruit will ripen to a soft golden color.
