- 1). Slip on a pair of high heels. By adding a few inches to your height, you lengthen your body line and thus appear slimmer. Just make sure that you're comfortable walking in the heels because the last thing you want to do is to stumble as you cross the stage to get your diploma.
- 2). Raise the gown's hemline a smidgen. If you're shorter in stature, pull the focus of the traditional hemline away from your ankles by raising it to your mid-calf. Exposing a little bit of leg helps to elongate your frame which, in turn, creates the illusion of a slimmer, taller you. It also makes the gown appear to be less of a frock.
- 3). Limit your layers. Rather than dressing in multiple layers beneath your gown, stick to a single layer of clothing. It's bad enough that the gown will make you appear a bit chunky; don't add to the illusion by adding more bulk. Slim yourself down by keeping your under-gown garb to a minimum, and avoiding anything bulky, like a large bow or a flared skirt, which will create bulges.
- 4). Strike the perfect pose. When taking graduation photos in your cap and gown, pose at an angle rather than directly facing the camera. Because the gown is not form-fitting, it can make you look larger than you actually are. So turn slightly to the left or right, smoothing the sides of the gown downward and toward your backside, out of the camera's frame. You might even unzip the front of your gown, revealing the cute outfit that's hiding underneath.
- 5). Plan for the occasion. If your graduation day is approaching and you want to commemorate the day by looking fabulous in your cap and gown, begin a diet and exercise regime that will take you from flabby to fab. While there will always be easy wardrobe fixes to help you look thinner, nothing beats going the extra mile and losing those few extra pounds.
