- 1). Brush the back of the fabric under the pinholes very gently, holding the fabric taut, with your fingernails or a soft brush such as a baby toothbrush. This method often will push silk fibers displaced by pins or needles back into place without further effort. Brush up and down and sideways until the hole disappears.
- 2). Steam press the fabric where the pinholes remain. Using a steam temperature recommended by the manufacturer of the iron for silk fabric, guide as much steam as possible toward the holes and follow with gentle brushing. Avoid excessive pressure on the front of the fabric by applying steam and heat on the back.
- 3). Spray stubborn pinholes with a very small amount of water, preferably from the back of the fabric. Press the fabric, also from the back.
- 4). Wash the garment with a soap or detergent recommended for silk and following the manufacturer's directions precisely. Many pieces of silk clothing may be successfully washed without damage to color or construction.
