How to Decorate With Asian Colonial

    • 1). Decide on the type and quantity of furniture you will need for each room. Asian Colonial furniture is typically made of wood like Asian teak. The furniture will be geometrically symmetrical with intricate wood carvings. The symmetry comes from the European cultures and the wood carving comes from the Asian cultures. You can use pieces reflecting several or a few of the Asian cultures such as India, China or Japan.

    • 2). Choose any carpeting or rugs you need. Flooring is extremely important for bringing a room together. Use an area rug or carpet that will tie the whole room together. For an Asian Colonial theme, it is best to have a hardwood floor with an area rug that displays an Asian design and deep colors such as red, yellow, orange, blue and green.

    • 3). Buy blinds that will match your furniture and curtains in a color that will match your rug or carpet. These two things can bring out the ambiance of the room. The style of curtains depends on which culture you wish to accentuate. You can have floor-length curtains that tie back like the draperies found in English homes, or you can have silk or sari curtains. You can use several types of blinds to accentuate the cultures. Venetian blinds with curtains are acceptable, or you can buy wooden blinds, such as wooden horizontal blinds or shutters.

    • 4). Paint the room using at least one calming color, such as an earth-toned blue or green. Use colors that will bring a feeling of peace and tranquility. If you prefer to use a dramatic color, use one that will pull out the individual colors that you have used in your décor.
