Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day - Official Synopsis
Disney's "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" follows the exploits of 11-year-old Alexander as he experiences the most terrible and horrible day of his young life—a day that begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by one calamity after another.
But when Alexander tells his upbeat family about the misadventures of his disastrous day, he finds little sympathy and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him. He soon learns that he's not alone when his brother, sister, mom and dad all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Anyone who says there is no such thing as a bad day just hasn't had one.
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day - About the Book
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is based on the 1972 award-winning children's book of the same name, written by Judith Viorst and illustrated by Ray Cruz. The book was inspired by Viorst's sons Alexander, Anthony and Nicholas. The book is recommended for kids about ages 4-9, and it can be purchased on some e-readers or as a hardback, paperback or board book.
Movies based on books are some of my favorite, because families can read together and then compare the book and the film. Especially for young kids, seeing the movie is a great motivation for learning to read the book, and for experiencing the joy of reading and thinking about how to adapt stories to the stage or the big screen.
Books with movie adaptations are also great summer book club picks. Kids can study the book and author, and then have a movie party to celebrate.
