- Pretend to randomly meet each other at a bar or restaurant. Begin with small talk. Make it a game. See who can convince the other first to go to a table or out with them. This can also be done with a double date.
- Reenact your first date. If possible, go to the same places. If unavailable, find something similar. Reminiscing reminds you of the early days of your relationship. Wear what you did that day. Give the same flowers. Capture the magic that made you two fall in love.
- Write a letter to each other or fill out a card. Express your love for one another and how you feel. Tell your spouse why you love her to reaffirm the relationship.
- Cook dinner for your significant other. Use candles to light the room. Play soft music in the background. Present the dinner in a formal way. Talk about your relationship and how much it means to you.
- Make your spouse's favorite breakfast. Lay it out on a tray and bring it to him in bed. Include a small card on the tray wishing him a happy Valentine's Day and saying you love him. To prevent the surprise from being ruined, leave a small note for your spouse saying to stay in bed for a surprise.
- Plan an overnight or weekend stay in a hotel or bed-and-breakfast. A break from housework and other responsibilities gives time to focus on each other and the relationship. Be sure to make arrangements with work or children beforehand. Advise caregivers to keep it a secret for a romantic surprise.
