How to stand up comedy:
- Practice on stage in front of your audience – Yes, I am talking about getting on the stage. This will help you apply the things that you learn on how to do a stand up comedy or this is what we usually call the "application". You need to get on the stage right away to build up your skills and confidence in front of the people. Many popular standup comedians took them months or years to master their skills and confidence. It may be easy to make someone laugh, but it's quite hard to make people or a crowd laugh.
- Be original – This is one of the hardest part of how to standup comedy. You may borrow lines and jokes if you will share it with your friends, but you cannot do it when you're on the stage in front of many people. Avoid neither borrowing nor using jokes by other comedian. Don't even try to rephrase the sentences. You need to keep your ideas flowing, you can even be random.
- Do not be afraid to make mistakes – Mistakes are natural and we all learn from our mistakes. All beginners, go through this stage, you may feel awkward or feel boring at first, don't let that eat you up because nothing will happen if you will blame or feel sorry for yourself. You mistakes will also teach you how to improve your jokes and lines, and you will be able to see what kind of joke your audience like. Simple as that. You just need to be patient and try until you hit their laughing spot. While you are on the stage try to get inside their minds, what kind of people they are? What kind of jokes they like? Try to experiment and observe their reactions.
- Record your voice – During practice, you can record your voice and try a sample of your standup comedy, then listen to your recording. This method will help you know what your mistakes are, what are your weak spots and what are the areas that you need to improve. It may sound funny, but many people are doing that method and they find it effective.
- If you have a good original jokes and lines keep it and use it regularly. These lines will be your trademark or your signature, but avoid using the same pattern or the same lines over and over again, or else your audience will get bored. Just use them and then add a new one.
