"Health is Wealth" - the popular saying has the same and very powerful meaning to every person. Technically Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. It does not mean the absence of any physical troubles only. The loss of health is loss of all happiness. In this era of fast life and complex lifestyle our attention is being driven to various issues rather than our own health.
Mahatma Gandhi also said,
"It is health which is real wealth, and not pieces of gold and silver".
To conquer over the issues related to health we need to Eat Healthy Food in order to have good nutrition, maintain a Balanced Life, Take Preventive Measures, Steer Clear & Get Physical Exercise for physical fitness. With so much on table in life we are unable to follow every step needed for healthy life and end up missing the few. Out of which the most ignored part is fitness. Being fit is the most vital approach for healthy life. Physical fitness is a general state of health and well-being or specifically the ability to perform aspects of sports or occupations. Physical fitness is generally achieved through correct nutrition, exercise, hygiene and rest. It is a set of attributes or characteristics that people have or achieve that relates to the ability to perform physical activity. Apart from our daily life work we can achieve these physical activities through sports. Sports is all forms of competitive physical activity which, through casual or organized participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical ability and skills while providing entertainment to participants, and in some cases, spectators. Hundreds of sports exist, from those requiring only two participants, through to those with hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams or competing as individuals. Performing theses activities give a good fitness and simultaneously lighten up our mood. General health benefits are Weight control, Reduced insulin resistance, Increased lean body mass, Decreased risk of Cardiovascular Disease, Stroke, Metabolic Syndrome, etc. Sports Specific advantages are Increase in athletic performance & Decrease in recovery time.
A physical fit person is often seen performing his daily basic activities very exuberantly and perfectly. Apart from the physical activities one other attribute of sports is Sports nutrition, which is the study and practice of nutrition and diet as it relates to athletic performance. It is concerned with the type and quantity of fluid and food taken by an athlete, and deals with nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, supplements and Organic substances such as carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
An adequate, balanced diet is necessary for an effective performance but does not guarantee it because nutrition is but one aspect of performance. A poor diet, on the other hand guarantees substandard performance. Maintaining energy balance is a key goal for athletes. Energy balance occurs when total energy intake from food matches energy expenditure from daily activity. Energy is provided by the carbohydrate, protein, fat and alcohol in food and fluids.
Athletes in endurance events, such as long distance running, often eat large amounts of carbohydrate for several days before the competition called carbohydrate loading. FATS provide the highest concentration of energy of all the nutrients. Athletes need protein primarily to repair and rebuild muscle that is broken down during exercise and to help optimizes carbohydrate storage in the form of glycogen. For hydartion Drinking water is suitable for most sports. Up to two litres of water an hour can be lost from the body during some sports, especially in hot, humid conditions. If fluid is not replaced, dehydration may result. This can reduce performance and can be life threatening if left untreated. Post-exercise recovery can enhance adaptations to training and help prepare for the next workout.
The often nutrition mistake we do are Sports shakes, bars, and drinks can replace a balanced diet, Sports drinks are only needed for exercise lasting more than an hour, All vegetarian athletes are healthy eaters, Vitamins and minerals give athletes extra energy they need to compete.
