- 1). Apply a permethrin or imidacloprin insecticide to the trunk and large branches’ bark, according to the package directions. Make the first application in the end of May.
- 2). Reapply the insecticide in mid-June, and then again in the beginning of July. Always follow the instructions on the package.
- 3). Paint carbary insecticide over any wounds on the tree trunk as soon as you notice them. Cover the wounds with a tree wound dressing.
- 4). Avoid using lawn mowers, weed trimmer or any other lawn-care equipment around the trees. Damage from this equipment leads to infestation.
- 5). Apply a 2-inch layer of mulch around the tree’s base, but not actually touching the trunk. Removing any weeds or any other plants growing under the infested trees and burning them kills borers.
