- 1). Spin the filter element off the filter adapter. Use a standard automotive filter strap wrench to loosen, if necessary.
- 2). Clean the mating surface where the filter gasket contacts the filter adapter. Lubricate the gasket on the new filter with clean engine oil.
- 3). Fill the new filter element with clean diesel fuel. Spin the new element onto the filter adapter and hand tighten.
- 4). Start the engine and check for leaks at the filter. If any are noted, tighten the filter just enough to stop the leakage.
- 1). Unscrew the water collection drain plug from the end of the fuel filter.
- 2). Allow the water and sediment to drain into a 1/2-cup container.
- 3). Replace the water drain plug and tighten.
