- 1). Wash the tea set thoroughly. Dry the items with a clean cloth.
- 2). Sketch a design for the tea seat. Use images collected from other sources, such as flower and bird encyclopedias or pictures from the Internet as inspiration for your design.
- 3). Use a grease pen to sketch your design onto the tea set. A grease pen is easily wiped away if you make a mistake. Or you can draw or paint your design directly onto the tea set without sketching first. If you are not confident in your free-hand artistic skills, you can use stencils for a more abstract design or to form words.
- 4). Allow the painted design to dry for 24 hours.
- 5). Bake the tea service to set the design, following directions on the label of the porcelain paint you are using. Most porcelain paints require a temperature of 300 F and a baking time of 30 minutes; however, consult your label for specific instructions.
- 6). Allow the tea set to cool in the oven before removing it.
