- 1). Plan a picture of a scene that is important in the book. Draw pictures of the things you might see in the picture if you were drawing an illustration of the book. For example, if you were reporting on the Wizard of Oz, you might draw Dorothy, Toto, the witch and a bucket of water.
- 2). Fold a piece of cream or 9 inch by 12 inch drawing paper in half, creasing it well. Unfold the paper, and about 3 inches from the top, use a ruler to draw a six inch line, three inches of which is on one side of the fold, and three inches on the other. Move the ruler 1 inch down the page, and draw another six inch line parallel to the first. Repeat three or four times down the page at intervals long enough for the items you wish to have pop up.
- 3). Fold the paper with the lines on the outside where you can see them. Use scissors to cut along the lines. Be sure not to cut any farther than the end of the line you have drawn.
- 4). Open the paper. Gently pull up the strips, and pull them to the inside of the card. When you close the card, the strips should remain inside, becoming flat. When you next open the card, they should stand up like little seats if one side of the card is flat on the table, and the other is held at a 45-degree angle perpendicular to the table.
- 5). Cut out the figures you drew, and glue them to the upright edge of the little seat-like projections. Make sure they only touch the paper at the base, and that they do not stick out beyond the edge of the card.
- 6). On the bottom edge of the card, write a paragraph that tells about the scene and why it is important to the book. On the front of the card, write the name of the book, the author and the reviewers name (the reviewer is you).
