Sept 2004 - Laura Linney ("Mystic River") and Tom Wilkinson ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind") have signed on to star in "The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel." Scott Derrickson will direct the film from a script he wrote with Paul Boardman.
"The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel" is based on true events, with Linney playing a lawyer who defends a priest (Wilkinson) charged with negligent homicide. Anneliese Michel was a college student who, in the late 1970s, exhibited symptoms of being possessed (speaking in tongues, spasms, etc.).
While performing a church-sanctioned exorcism, Anneliese died and the priests, along with her parents, were charged with her death.
Filming is expected to start in Vancouver in November 2004.
