- 1). If your dog has just swallowed rat poison, give her three teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide to get her to vomit. If this doesn't work you will need to get the dog to the vet as soon as possible; the vet can use other drugs to induce vomiting.
- 2). After the dog has stopped vomiting, begin giving him Vitamin K .Your dog should receive 5 mg for each kg that he weighs. Give this to your dog twice a day for one month to help his blood clot rather than running thin.
- 3). If you discover your dog has ingested the rat poison within the last 12 hours, take him to the vet to receive a charcoal treatment. Activated charcoal will absorb the rat poison. You should not try this step at home.
- 4). Allow your vet to perform a plasma or blood transfusion if the condition is serious. These transfusions can save your dog's life and restore him to good health. If your dog is very old, you will have to decide whether you want to put the dog through this.
- 5). Make sure your dog doesn't become dehydrated and require IV fluids. This is especially important after she has been made to vomit. Keep encouraging your dog to drink water.
