Cool-Season Grasses

• Cool-season grasses, which include blue grass, ryegrass and fescues, see peak growth in spring and fall; plant them at the beginning of these seasons. Warm-Season Grasses

• Warm-season grasses include Bemuda grass, buffalo grass and zoysia. These grasses grow mainly in summer, and should be planted at the beginning of this season. The months of May and June offer optimum conditions for warm-season grasses.

As a general rule, warm-season grasses grow best in the southern United States, while cool-season grasses are better adapted to northern regions.
