What Is Malware And How To Get Rid Of It

Malware often know as spyware or AdWare is software that sends information about your internet habits back to the computer from which it's launched.
Spyware is often built into free downloads and works in the background without a user's knowledge .
Since it doesn't record an individual's personal information, it's often used to create marketing profiles based on surfing habits.
Software can be AdWare and spyware at the same time, but not all AdWare is spyware.
AdWare and spyware are typically installed, usually without your knowledge, as you download other programs.
Software that is attempting to gather credit card numbers is clearly malicious, but there are less clear-cut cases.
Some software which provides useful and desirable functionality, such as one of the many 'search toolbars' or 'desktop toolbars', may also be gathering information about your browsing habits.
There is a clear distinction between spyware and viruses.
Viruses seek to spread, but spyware tries to stay put as a parasite.
Spyware disguises itself as a legitimate application or secretly resides as one more data link library (DLL) or registry setting the average user knows nothing about, so that it can collect information about you, your messaging, browsing behavior and your online preferences.
As prevention is always easier ALWAYS virus check any files you download off the web before using them.
Remember however, that any virus scanner is only as good as its last update, if you have not recently updated your virus scanner then it is almost useless.
Bear in mind that viruses occupy a majority of all known malware to date including worms.
The other major types of malware are Trojans, droppers, and kits.
Once you've identified the presence of malware on a computer, how do you get it off? What options are available, how complicated are they, and how well do they work? Prevention is always better than cure.
Scan your computer regularly to catch the things that slip by your primary defenses ie your virus scanner.
In other words, practice "Safe Computing" and perform regular checkups.
Scanning your computer with several programs simultaneously, will cause file access conflicts.
Make sure that the anti-virus/anti-spyware scanner is the only program open at this time.
Remember viruses usually attach to other programs, while malware is usually self-contained.
This being the case it is often better to have two separate programs one for the virus protection and one for the malware protection.
Most of the protection software available comes with easy to use interfaces and offers high levels of protection, the proviso is as stated earlier is that the database is kept up to date and they are used regularly.
The bottom line is however there is no such thing as 100% protection and the best protection is to take care and be thoughtful when you download than never to be repeated free software..
