Whether you travel for business or pleasure, you may find it difficult to duplicate your beauty routine while living out of a suitcase. However, with careful preparation, you can still look great at your next out-of-town business meeting or while sipping a frozen concoction as you lay on a beach in Hawaii. - Before leaving for your next trip, call ahead to your hotel to see if they offer any complimentary toiletries beyond the normal shampoo, conditioner and hand lotion found in most hotel bathrooms. Certain hotels may keep items such as razors, travel-sized shaving gels, toothbrushes and toothpaste at the front desk for guests who forgot to pack these essential items. Eliminating items like these from your suitcase can give you more space to pack styling tools and makeup.
- If traveling via airplane, remember that changes in air pressure can cause creams and lotions to leak out of pump and tube containers. Even if you wrap these items in a plastic bag to keep your clothes from getting ruined, you will end up having to clean liquid or cream off your containers and will also lose money from wasted beauty products. Instead, consider buying travel-sized plastic containers with screw-on tops. Transfer a portion of your moisturizer, night cream and hair styling gels into these pots. You'll also save valuable packing space by not including full-size containers in your luggage.
- Dehydration is a common side effect of air travel, and can cause your skin to look unhealthy. Make sure you stay hydrated while traveling to maintain your glowing complexion. If there is a grocery store near your hotel, stop in and buy a case of water so you can carry a bottle with you wherever you go.
- If you are on vacation and plan to spend most of your time outside exploring an exotic locale, research the climate and expected weather forecast for the duration of your trip. If your destination has high humidity, you may not need to pack a moisturizer. If the weather forecast predicts rain during your stay, traditional mascara might be useless, but clear mascara will define your lashes without causing unsightly flaking or streaking. Consider bringing extra sunscreen to protect yourself from the discoloration and discomfort that could result from a sunburn.
- Getting your eyebrows, armpits or legs waxed before embarking on your next travel experience can simplify your beauty routine and negate the need to pack items such as tweezers, razors or depilatory cream. Using an exfoliating facial treatment before leaving for your trip may make your skin smoother, eliminating extra beauty steps while you are on vacation. Getting a pedicure or manicure the day before you leave will ensure that you have great-looking hands and feet.
