- 1). Measure and mark the cast iron pipe section into 3-foot lengths using a tape measure and carpenter's pencil.
- 2). Wrap the snap cutter chain around the cast iron pipe, making sure the chain is perpendicular to the pipe and resting over the first pipe mark. Wear work gloves. With the cutter's handles open, pull the chain taut and slip the closest chain link onto the hook located on the end of one of the cutter's handles.
- 3). Put on a pair of eye goggles and push the cutter's handles quickly together. The chain will squeeze the pipe, breaking it cleanly without leaving jagged edges. Repeat the cutting process at each pipe mark.
- 4). Load the pipe sections into a vehicle. Do not place your hands into the pipe ends when carrying the pipes; the ends may be sharp. Take the pipe sections to a refuse site that accepts household metal/iron objects.
