- The Crimson Sweet watermelon is a common "picnic type" watermelon, growing to between 16 and 35 lbs. Crimson Sweets have a heavily striped rind and a dark, juicy red flesh with brown seeds. Like most watermelons they are best planted in groups of five seeds 1 inch deep in a small hill of dirt, with 1 yard of space between hills. The seeds should not be watered until after sprouting to avoid rot.
- The Millionaire watermelon is a popular triploid or seedless variety, growing between 15 and 20 lbs. The Millionaire is oblong with a striped rind and a firm, light red flesh. Though normally seedless, an occasional hard, dark seed is produced, with the chances of seeds rising exponentially when suffering environmental stress such as abnormal water or sunlight levels.
- The Sugar Baby watermelon is a small icebox variety, with the fruit weighing in at only 6 to 10 lbs. at maturity. The rind is a very dark green, with an exceptionally sweet reddish-orange flesh, and reaches full size much faster than many other varieties of watermelon --- a Sugar Baby matures between 68 and 80 days after planting, as opposed to the 80- to 90-day maturity of most larger watermelons.
- The Tendergold watermelon is somewhat unusual, due to its yellow flesh that turns orange near maturity. The rind is dark green with lighter mottled stripes, and the fully grown fruit weighs between 22 and 28 lbs. The Tendergold is resistant to anthracnose disease and wilt, making it a hardy variety to plant and ship.
