- 1). Gather seeds as soon as they are ripe and prepare to plant them right away. In nature, the vines drop their seeds and germinate very shortly thereafter. However, seeds that have been stored often take up to 12 months to germinate, if they germinate at all.
- 2). Lightly sand the sides of the seed to break down the hard shell. Place in a bowl of warm water and soak overnight.
- 3). Plant 1/8 to ¼ inch deep in a potting mixture of equal parts peat moss and all-purpose potting soil. Firm down lightly and then water to moisten the soil.
- 4). Place in a warm location where temperatures range from 80 to 85 degrees F during the day and remain above 68 degrree F at night.
- 5). Keep the soil evenly moist until seeds germinate in 2 to 4 weeks.
- 6). Place seedlings in full sun and fertilize with a 2:1:3 fertilizer once a month for optimum growth. Water frequently, but do not allow soil to become soggy. Passion flower needs well drained soil to avoid root rot.
