- 1). Select and prepare the planting area. Chamomile requires a lot of sunlight to thrive so pick a spot in your lawn that gets the fullest amount of sun. Two to three weeks before planting, use a garden hoe to aerate the planting area and remove any weeds and roots.
- 2). Pour down an inch deep layer of compose or manure and blend it into the top 4 to 6 inches of soil with a rake or gardening fork.
- 3). Fertilize the planting area with fertilizer specially formulated for lawns. Use 5 oz. for every 12 square feet of lawn and blend it into the top 1 to 2 inches of the soil with a rake or gardening fork. Once the fertilizer is blended in, level out the planting area with a metal gardening rake.
- 4). Sprinkle 1/4 ounce of chamomile seed over every 500 square feet of planting area and press the seeds into the soil with your hands, feet or a board. Gently water the soil to keep the top inch moist. If using chamomile turf, lay the turf on top of the soil and water to moisten the soil. If using chamomile seedlings, dig holes 6 inches apart, plant the seedlings and fill the holes in with soil. Water the lawn daily for the first 4 to 6 weeks after planting.
