All About Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a dental treatment in which a tooth colored resin is used and hardened with a special light to make teeth look better.
This is a procedure that is used to repair decayed or chipped teeth.
Most people opt for this procedure if they want to ensure that the gaps between their teeth can be closed.
It is also an option that people choose if they want to change the shape of their teeth.
Dental Bonding - The Process If you and your local dentist have decided that dental bonding is a process that is necessary for you, there is some preparation that may be required before you get into the procedure.
Anesthesia is required only f the bonding is being done to correct a decayed tooth.
A shape guide is required to be able to create the right shape and color of resin to match your teeth.
The base of the tooth is roughened and a liquid is applied so that it can help the resin attach itself to the tooth.
The resin is applied and molded into the desired shape before it is hardened with an ultraviolet light.
The entire process takes between 30 minutes to an hour depending on the complexity of the procedure.
Advantages of Dental Bonding Bonding is a process that is relatively easy to accomplish as compared to veneers and crowns that take far longer.
Tooth bonding is also a process that can be completed in a single visit, especially if it involves a single tooth.
This is a process that does not require anesthesia in most cases and therefore that is another advantage of the process.
Some do feel that the bonding process does not resist stains as well as crowns or veneer and while this is true, the advantages of dental bonding cannot be ignored.
Post the Procedure Another great aspect of dental bonding is that no special care is required once the process is complete.
Brushing twice a day and flossing teeth is enough to ensure that the dental bonding resin remains protected.
It is a good idea to see your dentist for regular checkups to ensure that all is well.
It is also important to make sure that you do not chew on pens, pencils or bite extremely hard food products with the tooth that has been bonded.
These good habits will dictate how long the dental bonding material lasts but such bonding material can last anywhere between 3 and 10 years.
If you do sense something odd with the bonded tooth, then you should schedule an appointment with your dentist immediately before further damage can occur to the resin.
There are times when a local dentist may suggest another procedure to correct a specific problem.
This is mainly because dental bonding may not be the right procedure for you.
There are other options like laser abrasions and veneers that can also be used to achieve the same results.
It is a good idea to discuss your thoughts with the dentist so that best dental treatment and procedure can be arrived at.
