How to Import a German Boxer

    • 1). Contact the USDA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Ask a representative from each agency for an updated checklist of requirements for importing German Boxers. Ask each representative how to submit necessary documentation for the dog. Contact the USDA at: 202-720-2791. Contact the USPHS at: 877-696-6775.

    • 2). Ask the HHS representative about your state or territory's quarantine requirements. Hawaii residents, for example, are required to have all necessary vaccinations, tests and microchip implantations for their dog accomplished no longer than five days after importation. Failure to meet Hawaii's five-day standards can result in your boxer being quarantined for 120 days.

    • 3). Obtain original copies of the two most recent rabies vaccination records for the boxer. Check the records to ensure they are signed by a certified veterinarian. Contact the current dog owner to ensure the dog has been vaccinated within 30 days of the planned importation. Submit the vaccination records as determined by the USDA and HHS.

    • 4). Acquire the original health certificate and an original set of blood test records for the boxer. Check the records to ensure they are signed by a certified veterinarian. Submit the vaccination records as determined by the USDA and HHS.

    • 5). Contact the German Animal Welfare Organization to inquire about additional importation rules, if necessary.
