A great way to get your preschooler into the holiday spirit is to do a little crafting together. Not only does making Christmas crafts allow you to spend some quality time together, but gives your little one a chance to flex her creative muscles and work on her fine motor skills, with such activities like cutting, coloring and glueing. Not to mention, the finished product makes for adorable decorations and gifts!
A preschooler made all of the crafts shown. Keep in mind, if he doesn't want to follow directions exactly or wants to use a different color paper or other alternative, that is fine. While the end result is somewhat important, when crafting with a young child, the process and having fun is really what you want to focus on. Happy crafting!
What you need:
- a rock for every Santa you are going to make
- drying rack
- wiggle eyes
- red felt or construction paper
- small fuzzy craft ball in a flesh tone (for nose)
- cotton balls or white cotton material
- glue

Clean each rock and let dry. Let your preschooler craft Santa's face using the wiggle eyes, and nose. Cut the red felt or construction paper into a triangle shape, one that is size-appropriate for the rock that you are using. Glue to rock. Pull the cotton so it is wispy. Glue to the base of the hat, the top of the hat (the ball at the end), and Santa's beard. Let dry.

Help your preschooler trace both of her hands and one foot (not toes, keeping your little one's shoes on is just fine) onto the construction paper (trace the hands onto the tan and foot onto the brown) and cut them out. Use the foot as the reindeer's body. Glue the palms of your child's paper hands on to the heel (larger) part of the paper foot. These are the antlers. If you have wiggle eyes or fuzzy craft balls, use them as the eyes and the nose, otherwise have your preschooler draw in the face of the reindeer.

Cut the picture of your preschooler into a circle shape. Glue it to the middle of the paper plate. Help your preschooler trace his both of his hands and then cut them out. Using the cut hands as a template, cut at least five or six additional hands. Have your preschooler glue the hands, fingers out and palms touching the edge of the photo, to the paper plate, alternating colors (if he wishes). If you want, glue a piece of yarn to the top of the wreath so it can be hung. Decorate with stickers if you like.

This project couldn't be easier and it makes such a nice gift! You can usually find the frames in a dollar-type store. Cut out a piece of aluminum foil that is slightly bigger than the frame -- you'll want to extend the sides down the cardboard. In the middle of the foil, have your preschooler draw a picture with the markers. My daughter chose a Christmas tree (left), but anything will do! Once finished, make sure the ink is dry. Cover the cardboard with the foil and then cover the foil with the plastic cover. Make sure your preschooler signs the back!

Another fun, easy project that makes for a cute gift. Save it for Christmas Eve night so your preschooler can feed Santa's reindeer! Help your preschooler trace both of her hands onto the tan construction paper and cut them out. These will serve as the antlers. Glue the antlers to the brown paper bag and if you choose, glue the eyes and the nose as well (otherwise you can just draw them on). Have your preschooler decorate the bag any way she likes. Put some of the oats and glitter into the bag. Once you are ready, have your preschooler scatter the "food" on the lawn or anyplace outside you think the reindeer might go!
