- 1). Cut your plywood sheet into four 1-by-6-foot pieces, using your table saw; measure first and draw the cut lines before you begin sawing.
- 2). Paint or stain your plywood panels. You don't need to sand first, since usually plywood is sold ready for paint or stain. Paint or stain one side of each panel first and allow the paint to dry, then do the same to the other side. Allow each painted or stained panel side to dry completely before proceeding or adding additional coats of paint or stain.
- 3). Lay your panels side-by-side with about 1/2 inch of space between them, and with their bottom edges matching exactly. Use a long level to check for straightness. Open your first hinge kit and set aside the included screws. Lay the two hinges from the kit over the space between the two leftmost panels; leave about 2 feet of space between the two hinges. Mark the locations of the hinges' screw holes. Repeat this process with the space between the two rightmost panels.
- 4). Drill pilot holes into your screw-hole markings. Open another hinge kit and attach all four opened hinges to the pre-drilled holes, using the drill and the screws included with your hinge kit.
- 5). Open the remaining hinge kit. Turn over your two sets of two hinge-connected plywood panels and again match their bottom edges; no hinges should face upward. Dry fit your remaining hinges over the space between the two sets and mark your screw holes. Drill pilot holes over the marks you made and attach the hinges.
- 6). Stand your room divider, slightly folding the panels into an accordion shape.
- 1). Sand away rough edges, splintered areas and old, peeling paint from both sides of all three doors. Wipe away any dust with your rag.
- 2). Remove any existing hardware, unless you'd like to keep the hardware on as a decorative element. Tape any hardware you've decided to keep.
- 3). Paint your doors one side at a time, allowing plenty of dry time between sides.
- 4). Set your three doors next to one another, long side by long side. Check with your level that their bottom edges match exactly. Open one of your heavy-duty hinge kits and dry fit the two heavy duty hinges into the space between the left and center doors. Mark the screw holes and drill pilot holes. Attach the hinges to complete the project.
- 5). Flip the attached left and center doors so their hinge-connected center faces down. Match all bottom edges again. Attach the right door to the center panel with the remaining hinge kit, using the same hinge-attaching technique.
