Apple Picking in Georgia

    Varieties

    • Gala, Jonathon and Red Delicious are varieties of red apples that can be picked in Georgia. Golden Delicious, Ozark Gold and Ginger Gold are popular yellow varieties. The most common green apples picked in Georgia include Granny Smith and Mutsu.

    Harvest Season

    • Apples may be picked from late July through late October each year. Harvests are usually in July or August in the southern or coastal regions of the state and September or October in the northern part of the state. Central Georgia can have apples ready for picking from August through late September.

    Ellijay

    • Many of the u-pick apple orchards in the state are located near the town of Ellijay. This city located 1 1/2 hours north of Atlanta and 1 1/2 hours south of Chattanooga, Tennessee, in the north Georgia mountains. The region of the state has lower humidity levels than southern and central Georgia so apples picked there tend to have a crispier texture.
