- 1). Use the pruners to cut the flowers at the stem close to the roots. Remove from the pot. Place stems under water and make an additional cut, at an angle, to eliminate air pockets. If you place the flowers in the same glass, then try to make the stems about the same length.
- 2). Pour water into a small glass. Add some drops of food coloring to the water. The water should be a medium to a medium-dark color when finished. For about every 12 ounces of water, use about 10 drops of food coloring.
- 3). Add the flowers to the water. The stem should be the only part of the flower in the water. Do not allow the petals to touch the water. The color will be absorbed through the stem.
- 4). Color starts to appear any time from an hour to several hours later. The flowers will absorb more color the longer they stay in the water. Allow them to stay in the water until they reach the saturation level you prefer.
