Toys made out of wood are great for preschoolers and toddlers because they're lightweight and can take a pounding.
Actually they practically last forever.
Knowing that you made them toys will mean a lot to them when they get older.
And there are so many different wooden toy plans to choose from they could end up with a lot of them.
Anything from wooden blocks to moving puppets.
The only thing holding you back is your imagination and your skill level.
Wooden toys have been a part of children's lives for centuries now and will be for the centuries to come.
Some favorite wooden toys have been cars, trains, and aero planes.
At least for the last century.
Learning how to make these is really simple if you have a good set of drawings.
Puzzles made out of wood are a popular item as are rocking horses.
I'm talking about the small rocking horse not the big rocking horse that you can actually ride.
Children love to play with miniature versions of real things.
That's why cars and planes are so popular.
If the child is just a baby than the first wooden toy you should make for him or her is wooden blocks.
They are the easiest to make and you can paint them bright colors.
The great thing about wooden blocks is the child can play with them for two or three years and then learn their colors off of the blocks.
Not all wooden toys are meant to be played with.
Some are so delicate and beautiful that they are meant to be displayed only.
If you do some research you can find some amazing wooden pieces of art that you would never let a child near.
To make something like this would require you to have excellent plans and be a top-notch woodworker.
I should mention that some people make wooden toys just so that they can sell them.
If you can come up with a cute idea and go to your local arts and crafts fair you will find a willing audience for your goods.
People love handmade things, especially in this day and age.
So what I'm trying to say is to be creative and to look around doing research.
In my opinion the quality of the wooden toy plans will make a huge difference in your success.
If it is a complicated toy you will need good blueprints, pictures with multiple views at different stages, and videos if possible.
