Different Colors of Snapdragons

    Dwarf Snapdragons

    • Dwarf snapdragons include Bells, Floral Carpet, Floral Showers, Montego and Palette. Since they stay under 11 inches tall, dwarf plants work well as borders for garden plots or in small containers, but do not work well for floral arrangements. Dwarf snapdragon varieties come in a range of pinks from the lightest baby pink to a deep fuschia to crimson red; light and dark purples; a variety of coral and orange colors; yellow; and white. There are also several bi-color varieties, mixing yellow and red, white and pink, and white and purple.

    Tall Snapdragons

    • Tall snapdragons are classified as growing more than 10 inches in height. They are used in cottage garden mixed beds, in an exclusive bed or grown in large planters to add a pop of color. Tall snapdragons are widely used in floral arrangements. Varieties include Coronette, Crown, Freesong, Kim, LaBella, Liberty, Rocket, Solstice and Sonnet. Tall snapdragons come in a wide spectrum of pinks, reds, purples, yellows, corals and pure white.

    Azalea Flowering Snapdragons

    • Aptly named, azalea flowering snapdragons showcase azalea-type flowers and consist of the varieties Bright Butterflies and Madame Butterfly. The flowers on these plants do not "snap" shut, but rather resemble butterfly wings. Flowers on these types of snapdragons come in pink, red, purple, yellow and white.

    Growing Snapdragons

    • Snapdragon plants are found at garden centers and some home improvement stores, but are also grown from seed. They prefer full sun but tolerate some shade. Snapdragons bloom throughout the spring and summer. Once they die off after the first bloom, if they are cut back or cut for use in a floral arrangement or bouquet, they come back for a second bloom in the fall.
