Tips For Dealing With Hardwood Floor Water Damage

Hardwood floors are very popular in most homes.
Depending on the type of hardwood you have in your home, there are some tips for effectively dealing with hardwood floor water damage that can save you time and the need to replace your entire floor when it has been damaged.
It is important to stop the leak as soon as you notice water on your floor.
If you have a solid hardwood floor it can warp very easily when water is left sitting on it.
Do not just blot the water from the floor, it is important that the water be vacuumed up completely.
Another quick tip when you have blotted the water is to use a hair dryer on the area to make sure it is completely dry.
If the entire floor has been damaged, it is normally necessary to have a professional remove the water and treat the floor in order to avoid warping and cracking.
When the damaged area is in a small area, it may be necessary to replace the undercoating and boards in that area.
This is one reason that most people get extra boards when they have a hardwood floor installed.
Remove any furniture that is sitting on the floor in the area that has been damaged.
When a heavy object is sitting on a wet floor it will weaken the board in that area and, in some cases, will cause the wood to break in the weak spot.
In addition, do not leave a throw rug or carpet on the area that has been wet.
When the spot is covered, any dampness will be absorbed and will sit on the wood and cause more damage.
Discussing the steps that will be most effective in repairing the damaged area with a professional will be helpful.
There are specific steps and products that can be used on damaged floors that will often alleviate the need to replace the entire floor.
A floor that has been laid without a vapor barrier will often suffer more damage than a floor that is properly installed.
When you are installing your floor, be sure to read the instructions for how to protect the floor from water damage.
A person who lives in a flood zone or an area where it is extremely humid will need to take more precautions to protect against hardwood floor water damage than a person who may only have to worry about a spilled glass of water or other liquid.
