Vines and Flowers Vase
Cindy Gilliland, 2009
Approx 6 tall. - ^5 Laguna "B-Mix with grog" clay, ^6 Coyote "Crazed Copper" glaze. Electric kiln fired.
Potter's Statement: I carved out the lines of vines, leaves and flowers, then hand painted the underglaze on bisque ware. The shape of the vase is lumpy, so I thought the vines and flowers would add to the fun feeling this vase projects.
Beth's Comments: I totally agree that the vines and flowers add to the very organic feel of this piece.
It almost feels like a young tree trunk or thick bamboo stem out in the jungle somewhere!
Again, I think you did well in your choice of glazes. Having the cooler green glaze over the yellow flowers ties the piece together and keeps the yellow from being discordantly bright. It also adds to that shadowed jungle feeling for me.
