- 1). Make bait traps from untreated, natural wood chips and boric acid. Boric acid powder is available at most drug stores and home improvement stores. Apply the boric acid to the wood chips.
- 2). Place the bait traps directly in the termite colonies around your home and anywhere you may have seen the insects. The termites eat the wood chips and boric acid, which sends their system into shock and kills them.
- 3). Pay attention to the places where you set the bait and as it disappears, add more wood chips treated with boric acid.
- 4). Sprinkle the boric acid over any cracks in the foundation or the walls where you have seen termites traveling. When they walk over it, the termites' legs absorb the powder into their bodies, killing them.
- 1). Measure the size of your yard to get the square footage or acreage. Calculate the square footage by multiplying the length of the yard in feet by the width; 43,560 square feet is the same as 1 acre.
- 2). Buy your beneficial nematodes. You need about a million for 2,000 square feet, 2 million for 4,000 square feet and up to 24 million for an acre. You can buy them from many gardening and farming supply stores.
- 3). Refrigerate the nematodes until you are ready to apply them.
- 4). Mix your nematodes with water and spray them over your yard with a sprayer. The beneficial nematodes hunt your termites--along with more than 200 other insect pests and fungi in your yard--feed off of them and kill them. They also eat insect grubs and larvae.
- 5). Keep your yard moist so the nematodes stay healthy to keep hunting insects.
