Should You Let Your Child Blog?

As reported by WiredSafety.
org, there are as many as 6 million underage children writing blogs, with or without the consent of their parents.
Blogging is especially popular amongst children who witness their parents' blogging personally or professionally, however the question is should children be allowed to blog or is there a safe environment on the web to facilitate blogging in a safe manner? A majority of blogs found on websites such as MySpace are written by children, where the minimum age limit is 14 years.
LiveJournal.
com is another popular site amongst kids that allow blogging by children over the age of 13 years, however not all kids who write these blogs are over the required age.
There are kids who lie about their age while registering on various social networking sites.
Internet safety for children is a big concern for most parents.
Blogging also brings a lot of benefits to children and therefore they can improve their writing, internet, computer, social, technical and communication skills.
Therefore we have formulated a few tips, so as to ensure that your child has a safe experience with the blogosphere.
o Firstly, you need to set up some rules for online activities including blogging.
You must educate the child about the dangers pertaining to personal information on the web and exchange of all such information must be prohibited.
o Look around for a blogging service which allows your child blog to be private and protected with a password, so that only invited friends can read it.
o Discuss the content to be published on the blog with the child and also explain the seriousness of some issues.
Similarly, monitor the blog regularly in order to get a knack of all the online activity on the blog such as comments by friends, pictures, music videos and so on.
