- 1). Put shoes and other items your dog likes out of his reach. In messy rooms where there are a lot of items on the floor in the dog's reach, close the door to keep him away from the temptations.
- 2). Provide your dog with plenty of toys that don't look like household items. Don't buy toys that look like newspapers or shoes. Don't give her old shoes to play with or it will confuse her. Instead, choose toys like tugging products, rubber bones and ropes to entertain her.
- 3). Provide your dog with plenty of fresh air and exercise. This will help alleviate boredom. It will also help release his pent-up energy. How much exercise your dog needs every day depends on his physical condition, age and breed.
- 4). Trade a dog treat for a shoe or other item your dog has when you catch her in the act. Say "Give" to let her know she should drop the item. Then, give her the treat in exchange.
