Plant a hardy and resistant seed when planting grass during the spring. Each type of grass carries with it different seeding, watering and soil requirements, according to Hobby Lawn Care. However, most grasses that grow during the springtime require a high amount of water, full sunlight and well-drained soil. - Kentucky bluegrass, while not native to North America, will thrive in just about any condition with proper care. The grass seed should be planted early spring after the last frost. The leaves will begin to emerge during late spring, reaching full maturity in early summer. Bluegrass requires moist soil and will need daily watering in dry climates.
- Bent grass, commonly used in golf courses will provide a green lawn from early spring to late fall with proper care. The seeds should be planted in moist soil during early spring. Seedlings will emerge 10 to 20 days after planting. The soil must be kept moist but not flooded, as excess water will kill the species.
- Carpet grass or flat grass is best suited for the Southern United States. Carpet grass withstands cold temperatures and can thrive in sandy, moist soil. Early spring is the best time to lay the seeds; seedlings will emerge 15 to 20 days after planting. Once emerged the soil should be kept moist and trimmed as carpet grass can easily grow out of control.
